 Health & Rejuvenation

Yoga Aloha Retreat

MAUI, HAWAII

Jan. 22-Jan.27, 2017

Banyan Tree Estate:
Plantation House & Cottages
Will you be joining us for our annual Maui, Hawaii Yoga Retreat?  We will be escaping the cold and journeying into deeper health and rejuvenation in tropical Maui.  This is a 5 night 6 day retreat. Our purpose is to reset our nervous system back in synchronization with the cycles and rhythms of nature, to restore our relationship to food and how we nourish ourselves, to deepen our progress in yoga asanas/posturing and meditation, and to celebrate life and make new friends of course!

With 2 tropical acres of land, the Banyan Tree is an historic estate centrally located between the cowboy town of Makawao (Upcountry) and the surf town of Paia.  It is in a quiet, shady oasis of banyan and jacaranda trees w/ sunny, open spaces of lawn and hammocks to find solace in.  There are also delicious fruit trees and exotic flowers to adore while loving the climate: highs in low 80's and lows in low 60's
We are pleased to have a fully equipped 700 sq. ft yoga studio where we will hold 3x daily yoga classes with careful instruction for all levels.  Our special guest yoga teacher and retreat leader is Gaya-Shelton Ostadi who along w/  Trish 'Prema'.  They are also co-founders of Yoga Camp Sonoma and work together to bring forth the gems and deep wisdom of yoga and Food is Medicine as a path for human potential and optimal health.
We will be taking advantage of the 50' salt water pool especially for our class on yogic and ujjayi breathing where you float on your back with your head cradled above water.  This will help re-pattern your breathing to be more full and relaxed.

Food is Medicine...Eating is Ritual Workshop Excerpt:

RECIPES FOR YOGA CAMP!
Vegetable Curry (serves 2-4)
  1. 2 Tbs. coconut oil
  2. 1 large yellow onion, finely diced
  3. 4 medium cloves garlic, minced
  4. One 2-inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and finely sliced/grated (1 Tbs.)
  5. 1 Tbs. ground coriander
  6. 1-1/2 tsp. ground cumin
  7. 3/4 tsp. ground turmeric
  8. 1/2 tsp. cayenne (optional @ end)
  9. 1 tomato
  10. 2 cups vegetable broth or just water
  11. 1 cup coconut milk
  12. One 3-inch cinnamon stick
  13. Fine sea salt and freshly ground black pepper
  14. 1 lb. sweet potatoes/yams, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes (about 3 cups)
  15. 2 large carrots, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch-thick rounds (about 1 cup)
  16. 1 cup chickpeas
  17. 2 Tbs. fresh lime juice
  18. 2 Tbs. chopped fresh cilantro
In a 5- to 6-quart heavy-duty pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until beginning to brown, 3 to 4 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium (or medium low if necessary) and cook until the onion is richly browned, 5 to 7 minutes more. Add the garlic and ginger; cook, stirring, for 1 minute to blend the flavors. Add the black mustard seed, coriander, cumin, turmeric, stir for 30 seconds to toast the spices.  Add the broth, coconut milk, cinnamon stick, 1 tsp. salt and bring to a boil w/ carrots & yams. Reduce the heat to medium low or low and simmer for 15 minutes.  Blend (blender or vitamix) 3/4 of the yams and carrots for a thickening, flavorful curry sauce then ddd garbanzo beans & vegetables of your liking (typical veggies for curry: cauliflower, zucchini, green beans).  Let set overnight if possible so flavors can really marinate.  Have the Indian Red Lentil Dahl in a separate bowl or over the entire meal. Heat and serve over cauliflower rice w/ squeeze of lime, hemp seeds, currents, cucumber yogurt/raita, and cilantro!  Enjoy the yummy nourishing flavors of natures plant medicine...Food is Medicine...Eating is Ritual!

Food is Medicine...Eating is Ritual

Workshops

Many have asked when we will be doing these workshops again either for the first time or as a review for those who have attended in the past.  Here it is!  These workshops are pivotal to understanding what underlies the exponential health problems in this country.  We go right to the heart of the problem: the alarming toxicity and poisons that have infiltrated our food supply since industrialization and the affects it has on our gut and body systems.
Through these workshops you will learn how to combat this growing problem through food is medicine health theory & ayurveda (science of healing and eating according to the wisdom of nature herself).  There are 6 key workshops:

 1) Purifying the Diet
 2) Cleansing and Strengthening the Liver
 3) Healing the Gut
4) Balancing Hormones
5) Restoring and Building Our Immunity
  6) Maximizing Nutrition w/ Superfoods

These workshops are sequenced  to constitute a full system cleanse and rejuvenation to help heal health conditions and build a foundation for optimal well-ness!  The dates are spread out so that after each step, you have a minimum of 2 weeks to implement the changes and begin truly transforming the quality of your health from the inside out!

The dates are:
July 2
July 16
July 30

Sept 3
Sept 17
Oct 1

It will be a small group taking a life-changing nutritional journey that is also the basis of some short videos that we will be producing for yoga camp preparations. The cost is $240 ($40 per class) and includes the food we will share.
50% deposit required to register
30% non-refundable

Group Meditation: The Great Leap from the Ego Centered Self to the Heart Centered Soul (the living tree of our nerve plexus centers)

Group Meditation & Workshop:
the great leap from the ego centered self
to the heart centered soul
Friday
April 29th, 2016
6-8pm
$10
tea & lentil soup
Will you be joining us as we review the inner and outer work of activating, balancing, and aligning our nerve plexus centers (chakras)?  The real path of yoga was bestowed upon us so that we could attain our full development and potentiality as spiritual beings experiencing physical form.  The work or path which involves tending to the quality of thoughts in our mind through the practice of ethics (1-yamas & 2-niyamas), taking care of the body and posturing it for proper life force circulation and movement (3-asanas),  breath work to control how energy flows (4-pranayama), cultivating perception beyond the five senses (5-pratyahara), focusing and concentrating the mind (6-dharana), bathing the brain in meditative flows from beta to alpha to theta and beyond (7-dhyana), and dissolving attachment to individual identity to establish in the eternal self
(8-samadhi)...are the essential eight limbs of the tree.  The deepened practice of all eight limbs provides the likelihood of genuine & profound experiences, unique to each person, of higher and higher states of present awareness and eternal truths.  They likewise directly tune up the living tree within, that of the seven nerve plexus centers along the spine. Our regular practice of the full path allows for the fruit of the tree, the fruit of our life to blossom.  Some of the sweetest fruits develop from the harmony and alignment of this living tree within like unconditional presence and love, good-will, and deep compassion to name a few...

In this Fridays meditation workshop, we will talk further about the struggle most find themselves, going from instability to stability to instability of basic needs at the root plexus or chakra, the imbalance between the masculine & feminine expression in the sacral plexus, and the overfeeding of the ego at the solar plexus.  Such has been the prevalent struggle of humankind...the oscillating and often reckless or haphazard approach to living often throwing these centers so off course that thriving self-development is halted.  This oscillating and haphazard approach is often the cause for the 'stuckness' or disempowerment most feel when they can't seem to get a hold of their lives or live deeply fulfilling lives.  Such is the state of affairs for many including the world at large with its inequalities between rich a poor, dominating patriarchal systems, and image driven marketing for example.

So it is a great leap we face to move from the ego self to the heart soul not just for the individual but for our communities and world.  Each plexus is the foundation for the next essentially and like a tree that needs solid ground to safely extend its roots, we need those roots for our healthy expression into the duality of life.  From that expression we are able to find our identity, the trunk of our tree at our navel.  These three stages are critical to whether we open at the heart and branch upward.  Because of the constant struggle at these first three, the leap to real opening of the heart is a great one.

This Friday, we will spend the majority of our time however, on the heart plexus which is the strongest electromagnetic resonance of all the centers. How important it is therefore, to cultivate pure intention here.  Also on the throat center and how vital it is to utilize words and our voice to carefully craft our reality.  The third eye center as well and the importance on diet  & visualization via meditation to keep our blissful hormones flowing. Last, the crown center...the seat of the Atman...our highest self, and what it takes to operate from here more often.  To the atman, the place where we have an expanded and overarching perception beyond the physical form and can develop therefore, an empowered and aligned way of being not so vulnerable to the extreme highs and lows of the other centers.

Our guided meditation will help to refine our yoga practice because of our focus on the real inner and outer work with these nerve plexus centers of the spine.  These centers are responsible for our individual tendencies and unique psychological profile.  What an art it is to understand, balance, & align them so as to arrive at a more refined self.  To living and tuning up the living tree of yoga within.

...Om Mani Padme Hum...
I like to call it, the polishing of the diamond gem within.  Without the inner and outer work, it simply doesn't shine in radiance or come into its highest potential.

To the governance of the heart and the plexus centers functioning in vertical, beautiful harmony...

Group Meditation & Workshop activate, balance, & align our unique psychology

Group Meditation & Workshop
activate, balance, & align our unique psychology

The axiom 'as above so below' is a cosmic law that governs the very nature of things including our inner workings of our mind and how it interplays with the spectrum of our emotions.  Like our universe of spinning galaxies with vortexes of energy, so too do we have the universe of spinning energies within our very body.  It is our energetic anatomy, our energy biology from which our unique psychological tendencies came through.  These imprints and expressions of our soul and our responsibility to activate & align and balance & ground them is the path of the stars.

There are seven primary nerve plexus or psychology centers.  The first is where the nerves come to a vortex at the base of our spinal chord, the tree of life.  Here, we experience some of the most primal emotions responsible for our survival in this physical form.  Above our pubic bone another vortex of nerves that allow us to experience emotions or energy in motion that are in contrast, our masculinity and femininity.  Moving up to the navel plexus of nerves the energy concentrates on emotions of individual expression in the world and identity of who and what we are.  Forth, to the most powerful, electromagnetic frequencies of the heart. What a dire leap it is to psychologically transform the thought waves and hardwiring of our minds to move from an ego centered self to a heart centered soul!  For the heart, the point at which our vertical and horizontal planes meet, the point where the heavens touch down and kiss the earth, is the sacred cross of our evolution.  With emotions of love, compassion, and divine community expressed here, OR of hate, intolerance, and the hell of separation or disconnectedness, the activation, balancing, & aligning of our unique psychology from the roots of our tree UP, becomes all too pertinent.  For what quality of sweetness is our fruit, what quality of spirit have we to show for ourselves.
In this group meditation & workshop, we will focus on the first three plexus centers of energy, of e-motion and navigate through their activation, balancing, & aligning of their expressions through breathwork, posturing, & meditation.

You are invited to join us and share in what makes our human experience so profound...the inner work of refining how we each individually function and feel and how the ancient path of yoga enables us to feel empowered by the spectrum of emotions.  The energy that runs through our systems are a celebration of this human form for us to evolve and refine the diamond gem within...and like a diamond it takes pressure, cutting, refining, & polishing to shine!
